For the second time a well coordinated multinational plan for Rotary Clubs in multiple Districts from all over the Great Lakes Watershed from Lake Superior to the Saint Lawrence River to clean up the area as part of the Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup on April 23 was planned and, as restrictions on the scope and size of gatherings were lessened, the hope was that this year our little Bi-National Club could have a greater impact.
The Small but Mighty Lewiston/NOTL Club doubled the number of Rotarians participating and doubled the poundage of trash removed from the shores of the Niagara River as it emptied into Lake Ontario!
The Club hauled almost 200 lbs. of rubbish out of the US side of the Lower Niagara River! Items included a paddle, unopened cans of beer, an empty whiskey bottle, a 40+ year old Pepsi bottle, multiple plastic bottle tops and straws, shotgun shells, broken tail lights, a NO PARKING sign, a cast iron grate, snail encrusted steel plates, cigarillo tips, filter tips, a wash cloth and some unidentifiable woman’s clothing items.
Our little Rotary Club isn’t the biggest, it isn’t the most well connected and it isn’t the wealthiest but we do what we can with what we have, and make the world and our community incrementally better, and we have a good time doing it.
